This article explains how to create a special order for an item that’s out of stock using the Point of Sale (POS) module. This tutorial assumes you are already familiar with the basics of submitting a sale through the POS.

Step 1: Adjust Item Search Settings
Open the Sale module from the POS Admin.
In the search area, uncheck the In Stock Only checkbox.
This allows the POS to search for and display both in-stock and out-of-stock items.
Step 2: Select and Add the Out of Stock Item
Choose the out-of-stock item you’d like to add to the cart. For this example we’ll be using the product named 14k Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring.
Once in the cart, note that the Special Order checkbox is automatically enabled.
Note: You can also manually select this option for in-stock items, allowing for special orders even if items are available.
Step 3: Submit the Sale
Complete the sale submission as usual.
To review, click View Sale and verify that the sale is marked as a Special Order.
